History of "I Approve This Message"
The political phrase "I approve this message"
was first used during the 2004 Presidential campaign. Television
campaign ads started with political points and ended with the politician
saying "I am [politician's name] and I approve this message". The
phrase has been spoofed by tv personalities and radio talk show hosts and
has become a common phrase in the political world. Lesser known
candidates for political office have begun using the phrase to add an extra
note of professionalism to their campaign ads. An alternate phrase--"I
approve this ad"--is an offspring of the original and has been used by some
candidates to change the flavor a little, but it still conveys the same
message. With politics being such a central and integral focusing
point in mainstream media today, "I approve this message" will forever be a
permanent stamp in campaign history.
